Communications Room

Internet, telephone, and television are all important in the modern age. These features are handled and manage within the communications room. This room will be locked and located in the lower floor. This is to be out of sight, and out of mind. The communications room might be one of the most important spaces of the penthouse though, especially in secondary role rooms. And while the penthouse will be using cat-8 networking cable, the connection to the internet will be fiber optic – therefore giving the best possible speeds available.

On another note, the cat-8 cables will run in PVC tubing which will allow for upgrades for better ethernet cable or when fiber optic actually becomes the standard in communications as I personally think it should be. The piping will only be as wide as necessary to make for the movement, and runs of ethernet cabling, and upgrading.

Internet

Internet is doubled, and doubled again. The goal is to assure everyone has capable internet service. There will be 2 network servers which will work independently of each other, but assures that everyone has a good experience. The important things will be the network cabling which is up to 40GBPS cat-8 cable. The cables will run in PVC tubes with spray foam insulation surrounding the PVC lines. This will allow the replacement of cat-8 to something better for when 40GBPS is no longer a viable connection option. All ethernet lines will run from the panels in the wall to the patch panel in the communications room. Even though cat-8 can go as high as 40GBPS, the current commercial standards is 10GBPS which is what will be used. This will provide for the best LAN? connection even though the internet is slower. When sending information from one device to another via LAN, it can always be faster than available internet speed. This means if 2 devices with a 10GBPS ethernet connection are talking to each other, everything will be transferred as fast as possible, and therefore no bottleneck.

Yellow cables from the patch panel to the switch (such as for access points) will stick out with the yellow cable, and if the technician sees that all yellow cables are for POE?, then they will get that idea if they worked on my place in the future. All other cables are gray. The lines running in through the wall likely does not matter, but access points will all have yellow lines – again to assure that the device is POE.

All locations will have its own dedicated connection. This will depend on what is provided to which party. Since the entire building will have their now connections, and I am paying the bill, I will imagine that I will get a significant discount for all of the services I will be providing. Whereas most of the units will get a 300MBPS which is is the lowest speed, The guest wing, and servants’ quarters will each get a 1GBPS connection. I will however get a 5GBPS connection which is a significantly more than the 1GBPS. However, even at 300MBPS, the connection is significant since uploads is the same as downloads.

Telephone

First Verizon has shut down the POTS? telephone network. This is fine as there will be a better telephone solution. This will mean that all telephones in the apartment building will be SIP?. This will mean it will carry over the internet to make and receive calls. A telephone call needs at least 1MBPS connection for a stable call. The dedicated telephone network will be on a 500MBPS connection. A dedicated internet connection for the phone system is intended to provide for a stable network connection with the incoming calls for the phone system. While account 2 will use this connection because it provides for incoming calls, and public foyer calling will all be on this second account. This second line will not make calls at all – just receive. The first account will be the person’s private SIP plan, and will use their own provider to connect to the call through the building’s telephone network.

The servant will enter their credentials in the appropriate fields. This will include their UID, password, and server. Since they will be able to use a computer to provide this information, the SIP password can be long, and impossible to remember. This is what I do when I have my own SIP phone. The penthouse will have a dedicated telephony server. This will handle all of the calls for the penthouse, and the guest wing. This will mean the 412 number of my Ideal Phone Setup will be using this server to connect. In addition, so will the 724 number as a fax/voicemail line. Every other wifi? phone will also get their own phone number on account 1. Therefore, picking up a wifi phone, and making a call will always work when trying to call outside of the building. There will be multiple phone numbers, but each phone line within the penthouse will have unlimited domestic calling. This is especially useful for someone that doesn’t have, or can’t use their cellular line to make the call. This means that not counting my telephone numbers from the Ideal Phone Setup, there will be the following:

  1. Penthouse Number
  2. Bedroom 1 (Significant Other)
  3. Bedroom 2
  4. Bedroom 3
  5. Bedroom 4
  6. Bedroom 5
  7. Guest Wing

Again, the servants will use their own phone service credentials, and my personal and office lines are not included in the above. As for bedroom 1, this will be my 412 number from the Ideal Phone Setup. This will mean every bedroom will get their own telephone number, as will the guest wing. These numbers will use the same backbone as the other phone lines in the building. This is a means of connecting the phones to the phone’s network like which will be identified as ph. All wifi phones in the building will be on this wifi network.

Television

There will be a TV wall in the great rooms, and all of the bedrooms. However, I am personally not fond of cable TV, and find little to no value in subscribing to the service. With that consideration, the only likely television will be OTA? television services. Such changes will be made in the communications room which is in the lower floor. If I choose for cable TV, I will have to pay $10-$20 per month for the TV boxes. I might be more receptive if there was no IPTV? services available, but I don’t see that as an option. The option is likely to be Sling which is not a cable TV provider. In addition, since Sling is IPTV, there is no need to worry about a coaxial jack to be used.

If I have foster children, they will have to prove maturity before they get any large viewing screen. They will start with no screen. Once they prove they can handle that, then they will receive a 40″ monitor (no coaxial), and a smartTV adapter. They will choose what IPTV services they will want, and of course be responsible for paying for these services. This will teach them that having wants costs money, and they will have to decide if it is worth that cost. After they proven to be responsible with a monitor, and smartTV adapter, they will be upgraded to a TV, and they will have the option to pay the $10-$20 cable box fee. They don’t have to, and can opt to just keep their IPTV solutions rather than wasting their money.

If they don’t have a screen in their bedroom, they can watch TV in the great room. If no one else is using the screen, then they can choose what channel to watch. If someone else is using the TV, then they will have to take turns in watching the content or recoding a show on the box’s DVR.
